Audition for Extra Singers in All Voice Parts for the Göteborg Opera Choir

The Göteborg Opera is a modern cultural institution for opera, dance, musicals, and orchestral music, having touched over seven million visitors since its opening in 1994. The Göteborg Opera Choir consists of 42 permanent singers and is one of Sweden's three professional opera choirs. The choir participates in most of the large stage's opera productions, concerts, smaller ensembles, and musicals. Great emphasis is placed on the theatrical expression in choir work.

For upcoming productions that require extra singers, we are now seeking local singers in all voice parts. Approved extra singers will be employed as needed on production contracts based in Gothenburg. Compensation per attendance is according to an agreement with SYMF (Swedish Professional Musicians' Union). Over the next two performance years, we are tentatively planning for 1-2 productions that require extra singers. There may also be a need for substitutes during the upcoming performance year.

For the above positions, it is required that you have completed higher education at an opera academy, music academy, or equivalent education. Our working languages are Swedish and English. Theatrical experience from musical theater is meritorious. The audition will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, after a personal invitation. You will receive a response by March 12 at the latest if you are invited to the audition.

For the audition, you should prepare:

• A self-chosen opera aria (max 5 minutes) performed from memory with a pianist (without preparatory rehearsal). You may receive a simple instruction to perform during the aria on-site.
• A shorter choral piece, which will be sent with the personal invitation. You will sing your part (preferably from memory) accompanied by a pianist.

Your audition will be judged by a jury consisting of the choir master, representatives from the choir leadership, and several singers from the opera choir.
